Madam President of the General Conference, Madam President of the Executive Council
Madam Director General, Distinguished Heads of Delegations;

UNESCO\'s history remembered that the 36th session of the General Conference took place when the three bodies were in their heads, three ladies of experience and expertise:

Ladies Katalin Bogyay, President of the General Conference , Eleonora Mitrofanov, President of the Executive Board, and Irina Bokova, Executive Director.

Ladies, my country, Cote d\'Ivoire would like to express
his pride and congratulate you on the actions you lead at the head of the Organization.

Madam President of the General Conference, the world is currently facing many challenges related to natural disasters, and include the recent floods that occurred in Thailand, the earthquake in Turkey, and so on.

If these calamities are often independent of human action, we must recognize that this is not the case for many of them. At the same time, we all live a multidimensional crisis: financial, moral, social .. Especially in Africa where  the phenomena mentioned above are most felt, because they are grafted on extreme poverty of the people.

Madam President, In such a situation  in Africa  UNESCO sees its specific mission of building peace is confirmed further in all skills areas.

Therefore, my delegation welcomes the Organization for actions already completed, while acknowledging that much remains to be done and approved the draft program and budget contained in document 36C / 5.

Madam President, to prepare our children to become responsible citizens and able to face all these challenges, necessary to build quality education systems, inclusive and relevant.

In this context, Cote d\'Ivoire, pointing the fact that after the  crisis it has experienced, the resumption of normal life through the school, introduced in the curriculum a program of education for human rights, the peaceful management conflict and citizenship; this program is to strengthen and lead in higher education.

The focus, we believe, should be also placed on literacy, girls\' education, technical education and vocational training, as well as the capacity building of trainers. Thus, for the revitalization initiative for teacher training in sub-Saharan Africa (TTISSA) under Unesco should be considered in Côte d\'Ivoire .

With regard to the natural sciences, we believe that science policy should be able to put science at the service of people to improve their living conditions. Madam President, My delegation would encourage UNESCO, including COMEST, to provide a normative basis for attitudes and behavior of man facing the phenomenon of climate change, for greater accountability of humanity.

Furthermore, MOST holds our attention to promote social integration and consolidation of social cohesion in post conflict country generally speaking and ours in particular. In addition, UNESCO reaffirmed the intrinsic link between culture and development,

Reason for which , my country in post conflict, would support the Museum of Civilization in Abidjan, severly victimised of vandalism and looting during the crisis. We also look forward with great hope, the inclusion of the historic town of Grand-Bassam on World Heritage List.

Regarding Communication and Information,my delegation wishes that a focus on ethics  through the improvement of curricula in schools of journalism and media freedom as
to expression and press freedom are key elements in democracy building .

Madam President, UNESCO is the moral conscience of humanity. It must remain and continue to express it, more today than yesterday, to transform the blank page of
history into a symbol of hope and peace. Thank you
