Sustainable development at the heart of UNESCO\'s Africa Week


Film screenings, art exhibitions and thematic conferences have marked the 2012 edition of the Africa Week organized at UNESCO Headquarters from May 21 to 25 by the African Group of Member States of UNESCO, chaired by South Africa.


It was organized with various activities, including conferences on topics such as


1.  \"cooperation on climate change and promoting sustainable development \"


2.  \" Joseph Ki-Zerbo: humanist, historian, engaged intellectual \"or\" mathematics Yoruba reviewed, corrected and reconstructed: archeology and anthropology of knowledge in a culture of orality. \"


Particular emphasis was placed on science in Africa through a presentation of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (Trieste, Italy) and the International Institute of Water Engineering and Environment ( Burkina Faso).

The celebrations were also marked by the presentation of the film


Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai by Alan Dater and Lisa Merton and two documentaries: Djanta Halidou and ... On clay, the potters of Sejnane.

A parade of children dressed in African cultural exhibits and an arts and cultural evening in the colors of Africa.

The celebrations ended with the broadcast of a message Boni Yayi, President of the African Union and President of Benin, followed by a tasting of African dishes.

Africa Week is an annual event organized by the African Permanent Delegations to UNESCO. It aimed to increase the visibility of Africa through the development of its diverse cultural and artistic heritage

Permanent Delegation of Côte d\'Ivoire to UNESCO joined the event start on May 21, 2012 at UNESCO A special tribute was to Wangari Maathai, environmental activist and Nobel laureate for peace vanished in 2011.
