The Delegation of Côte d\'Ivoire to UNESCO was honored to be invite by the Swedish Embassy in France and the Directorate of External Relations and Public Information at Conference-tribute ceremony in memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, Secretary General of the United Nations from 1953 to 1961 in the service of peace, September 18, 1961 died tragically in a plane crash on the Zambian territory.


 Throughout his tenure as United Nations Secretary General, Dag Hammarskjöld was able to limit the consequences of three major international crises:



1. the crisis of Suez Canal in 1956
2 Conflict in Lebanon
3. War in Laos


 As the civil war broke out in Congo in 1960, Dag Hammarskjöld received the approval of the Security Council to deploy peacekeepers to maintain peace, while he was trying hard to conduct a mediation between the belligerents .It was during one of these missions that he lost life in a plane crash in Zambia Land September 18, 1961.


 Dag Hammarskjöld was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously in 1961. He was a prominent cultural personality, writer and translator, he was one of eighteen members of the Swedish Academy.


 The theme of the Conference in memory of the illustrious personage entitled:
\"Dag Hammarskjöld, a peace-loving man\"


It took place at UNESCO Headquarter in Fontenoy.(Room 9)
Among the panel of personalities, His Excellency Denise Houphouet-Boigny, Permanent Delegate of Côte d\'Ivoire to UNESCO was invited to speak on the following theme:  


 \"The influence of Dag Hammarskjöld on the actions and positions of the United Nations.


The research challenges and peace building  in Côte d\'Ivoire have been mentioned as a continuation of the philosophy of this example of dialogue and mediation strategy for the sake of peace represented by the Secretary General \"Dag Hammarskjöld
