Initiated by the Permanent Delegation of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO, a meeting was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Paris between a delegation of Ambassadors from the Africa Group led by H.E. Dr. Phileman MJWARA, Permanent Delegate of South Africa to UNESCO, and Algest Investment Bank. The discussion focused on innovative financing strategies.

The session was facilitated by two experts in finance and economic development: Mr. Christian De BOISSIEU, economist and Emeritus Professor at Sorbonne University, Vice-President of the Circle of Economists, and Mr. Ibrahim MAGASSA, economist and business banker, President of Algest Investment Bank.

Discussions highlighted the ambitions of the Africa Priority, identified limitations in current funding mechanisms, and explored opportunities presented by innovative financing approaches. This comes at a crucial time for UNESCO, facing increasing financial deficits in its programs.

In this context, Algest Investment Bank committed to mobilizing financial and development institutions to raise funds aimed at accelerating the implementation of UNESCO's priority programs, including Africa Priority, girls' education, vocational training, and youth empowerment.

Ambassadors from the Africa Group commended this initiative and thanked President Ibrahim MAGASSA for his commitment to supporting the Africa Group's mission. They expressed readiness for collaboration between the Africa Group and Algest Investment Bank. In this regard, President Ibrahim MAGASSA and Professor Christian De BOISSIEU were invited to share their experience in innovative and sustainable financing at the next plenary session of the Africa Group.
