On Wednesday July 31, at a ceremony organized by the Ivorian National Commission for UNESCO, the town of Gagnoa received its certificate of membership of the UNESCO World Network of Learning Cities, becoming the second Ivorian town to join the Network after Bouaké.

Her Excellency Madame Bakayoko-Ly Ramata, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO, took part in the ceremony online. In her speech, she underlined the importance of this membership, recalling that participation in this network is an opportunity to rethink the city of Gagnoa, to make it a space for individual and collective learning, which promotes the pooling of experience and intelligence.

The Ambassador congratulated the Honorable Yssouf Diabaté, Deputy Mayor of Gagnoa, and his municipal council for their commitment to inclusive education through lifelong learning, which is essential to the sustainable development of their city. She also stressed the need for Gagnoa town council to develop cooperation with other Network member cities, and to participate in capacity-building activities and international and regional conferences organized by the Network.

The Ambassador then thanked Professor Koné Mariatou, Minister of Education and Literacy, President of the Ivorian National Commission for UNESCO, for making it a priority for Ivorian cities to join UNESCO's Global Network of Education Cities.

She also urged representatives of other cities to get involved in the application process for future editions, in order to increase the participation of Ivorian cities in this prestigious network, which enrols only three cities per country, with a membership cycle every two years.

Finally, SE. Bakayoko-Ly Ramata concluded her speech by thanking the representatives of the mayors of Boundiali, Dimbokro and Korhogo for their participation in this ceremony.
