Paris – November 22, 2024. Her Excellency Mrs. Bakayoko-Ly Ramata, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Côte d’Ivoire to UNESCO, participated on October 30, 2024, in a panel at UNESCO on the theme: "Listening to the Voices of Countries to Advance the Gender Agenda Together." The objective was to share experiences in promoting gender equality in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.

In her address, the Ambassador highlighted the underrepresentation of women in the digital sector, particularly in AI, which is also reflected in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

She showcased several initiatives in Côte d’Ivoire aimed at promoting education and female entrepreneurship, such as the “Technological Incubators for Women”, “Digital Houses”, and the “DigiFemmes” program. These initiatives focus on training women in digital professions to reduce disparities, positioning Côte d’Ivoire as a leading African country in combating discrimination against girls and women, as evidenced by its ranking in the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) developed by the OECD.

Furthermore, regarding UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence to address disparities in the digital age, the Ambassador pointed out several actions undertaken, including a project led by the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics at Alassane Ouattara University, in collaboration with African and European universities. This project developed ten modules on AI ethics and made the Recommendation available in ten national languages. Its goal is to empower women and girls outside the formal education system to embrace the values and principles outlined in the Recommendation.
