The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was founded on 16th November 1945 and Côte d'Ivoire became a member since October 27, 1960. The goal set by the Organization is to promote international cooperation between the permanent 195 délégations through Education, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, culture and communication.

Since October 27, 1960, Côte d'Ivoire became a member of this organization.

Since 1992, Côte d'Ivoire has opted to appoint an Ambassador, Permanent Delegate to UNESCO.

The first was the Ambassador Tuo Bakary Toure

It was followed by Mrs Yolande Tanoh Bouah

Then Ms. YAO-YAO Akissi KAN Odette and Excellency Mrs. Denise Houphouet-Boigny

The current Ambassador Permanent Delegate since 2021 is Her Excellency Mrs. Bakayoko-Ly Ramata .

The objective that has set the Organization is to promote international cooperation among the 195 through permanent delegations Education, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Culture and Communication and Information

The Permanent Delegation of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO performs the role of promoting the interests and positions the Ivory Coast within UNESCO. She is the liaison between the State of Côte d'Ivoire and the Secretariat of the Organization with headquarters in Paris.

The Permanent Delegation of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO's task is to coordinate the participation and cohesion policies and actions of the departments of guardianships entering the fields of competence of UNESCO, namely: the Ministries of Education National Culture and Francophonie, the Technical Education and Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Forestry Commission, Communication and Information, Youth and Sports ) and many other departments.

The Permanent Work under the Ministry of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education which is the Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO and the National Commission for UNESCO, itself under the Ministry of Education.

Areas of intervention of UNESCO in Ivory Coast

UNESCO deploys its action in the Ivory Coast in the field of Education, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Culture, Communication and Information. Regarding his speech, his great priority programs include:

1.Priorities in Education

Basic education for All, the accent being put in particular on the elimination of illiteracy, education for the prevention of the HIV / AIDS and teachers training reinforcement in sub-Saharan Africa.
Secondary education including technical and professional education and training as well as promoting sciences and technologies in schools .
The promotion of a quality education, the accent being put in particular on the education in the values and teachers training
Higher education. and sientific research
2. Priorities in Exact and Natural Sciences

Water and associated ecosystems
Oceans
Capacity building reinforcement in the field of the fundamental sciences and engineering sciences.
Implementation of scientific policies and promoting a culture of maintenance
The promotion of the applied science, engineering technics and technologies suited to sustainable development as well as increasing natural ressources management to facilitate disasters prevention and allowing mitigation of their effects as well as providing renewable energy sources
3. Priorities in Social and Human Sciences

Ethics of sciences and technologies, in particular bioethics
Human Rights promotion and fight against all forms of discrimination, racism, xenophobia and intolerance which is associated activities undertaken within UNESCO's fields of expertize.
Prospective, philosophy, human sciences, democracy and the intensification of human security through the management of the social transformations(MOST)
4. Priorities in Culture

Promotion of cultural diversity with the accent being put on material and immaterial heritage
Cultural policies as well as dialogue and understanding between cultures and between religious communities
Cultural industries and plural artistic expression
5. Priorities in Communication and Information

Empowerment of the population throughout information sharing and knowledge access ;the accent being put on freedom of expression
Promotion of communication development
Promotion ITC use in educational and training
scientific and cultural purposes
