The Jury Prize Houphouet-Boigny Peace has paid particular attention to actions in favor of peace, progress, democracy and tolerance in Africa. After a lengthy consultation and a thorough analysis of the situation in Africa, the Jury decided to award the Houphouet-Boigny Peace, for the year 2005 to Abdoulaye Wade, President of the Republic Senegal, for his contribution to democracy in Senegal and for his mediation in political conflicts in the region.
