The Prime Minister said that the opening of the office was tangible proof of the return of peace and reconciliation in the country and showed the steadfast commitment of the Ivorian Government to work with UNESCO for peace and sustainable development. He particularly commended the important actions and initiatives led by Irina Bokova in her capacity as head of UNESCO.
After expressing her gratitude towards the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara, and the Ivorian Government for their firm support and for providing premises for the UNESCO Office, the Director-General emphasized that the opening of the office reflected a shared desire to step up cooperation between UNESCO and Côte d’Ivoire. The Director-General undertook to make the UNESCO Office in Abidjan a place of open dialogue and exchange for launching innovative projects and accelerating the achievement of jointly-set objectives for education, science, culture, media and the culture of peace.
