Côte d'Ivoire at the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural and Artistic Education in Abu Dhabi

Côte d'Ivoire, through the Ministry of Culture and Francophonie, the Ministry of National Education and Literacy and the Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, took part in the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural and Artistic Education, from February 13 to 15, 2024, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The aim of the Conference was to strengthen a global coalition in favor of arts and cultural education, and to develop policies, ideas and practices aimed at equipping pupils, students and players in the world of culture with knowledge in their fields of action.
In her speech, Ambassador Bakayoko-Ly Ramata, head of the Ivorian delegation to the Conference and representing the Ivorian Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Ms Françoise Remarck, underlined the importance of cultural and artistic education as a lever for social transformation and the construction of a more just and inclusive society. Sharing the Ivorian experience, she particularly stressed the need to develop collaborations between educational institutions and cultural organizations, with a view to better integrating culture and the arts into school curricula, and making available the educational resources of cultural sites.
The Ambassador also reiterated the relevance of a multi-actor approach in the field of artistic and cultural education, with a view to developing training structures as well as educational and cultural infrastructures.
At the end of the conference, a Global Framework for Arts and Culture Education was unanimously adopted, giving culture and the arts an important place in educational policies and strategies. The new framework also emphasizes the value of heritage and local cultures, as well as the need for lifelong cultural and artistic learning.
