On Thursday, December 18, 2024, a training seminar co-organized by the Côte d'Ivoire National Commission for UNESCO and the Permanent Delegation of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO was held at the Université Virtuelle de Côte d'Ivoire in Abidjan, on the subject of UNESCO city networks and programs, under the theme "Presentation of application mechanisms for UNESCO city networks and programs".
Taking part in the meeting, H.E. Mrs Bakayoko-Ly Ramata, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Côte d'Ivoire to UNESCO, explained the importance of the seminar, which aimed to familiarize participants, particularly representatives of Côte d'Ivoire's communes, with the eight UNESCO city networks, and to explain the mechanisms for submitting applications, in order to facilitate their participation in these networks according to their potential.
The Ambassador also stressed the importance of being a member of the UNESCO city networks for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG4 on access to quality education and SDG11 on inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities.
She went on to note the low level of participation of Côte d'Ivoire's cities in these networks, and congratulated the commune of Bouaké, the only Ivorian city in the Global Network of Learning Cities.
Before concluding his speech, the Ambassador expressed the wish to see Côte d'Ivoire's candidate cities join the networks identified with a view to reinforcing creativity, living together and inter-cultural dialogue, in order to contribute to strengthening the presence of the African continent in UNESCO's city networks and programs.
The meeting was also attended by the Moroccan National Commission for UNESCO.
